Clifford Chance : European Perspectives | ESG Series | Session 7

Tuesday, 31st May, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 pm

We are delighted to invite you to the Clifford Chance ‘European Perspectives | ESG Series | The EU Corporate Sustainable Due Diligence Proposal: Managing Adverse Environmental Impactswebinar on Tuesday, 31 May 2022 at 10:30 CET | 9:30 BST.

On 23 February, the European Commission published its long-awaited proposal for mHREDD legislation – the Corporate Sustainable Due Diligence directive. If adopted, the proposal would require large companies to carry out due diligence to identify and address adverse human rights and environmental impacts of their operations, subsidiaries and value chains, and to produce climate plans.

You are invited to join our webinar where some of our top ESG and environmental experts from across the Clifford Chance network will give an overview of the CSDD directive, discuss who is impacted, and focus on the challenges of extending value chain due diligence into the environmental domain and the risks for business.

Key topics:

  • How would the due diligence duties apply to international environmental agreements, particularly in relation to the downstream value chain and biodiversity?
  • What is the connection between due diligence on environmental impacts and human rights breaches?
  • Climate plans – what are they and how do they fit with other EU legislative requirements such as the Paris Agreement and CSRD reporting
  • What are the consequences of not complying with the legislation including risk of penalties or litigation?
  • What are the potential reporting issues and the implications of the proposed Directive for non-EU businesses?
