Dechert is pleased to be a sponsor of the Investment Company Institute’s Closed-End Fund Virtual Conference on November 9 and 10. Conference panels will address emerging trends affecting closed-end funds — as well as what challenges lie ahead — from the perspective of fund sponsors, fund shareholders, fund analysts, attorneys, regulators and other participants in the closed-end fund ecosystem.

On November 9, Dechert partner Bill Bielefeld will speak on a panel titled Primary Market/Product Development: Unlisted Closed-End Funds. The unlisted closed-end fund market has grown significantly over the last three years. This mini-panel will discuss some common trends, considerations and issues for fund sponsors that are in the market or looking to enter it.

Also on November 10, Dechert partner Timothy Spangler will present during the Thought Leadership session on Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Developments for Closed-End Funds. The past few years have been very good for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Many more investors are considering this asset class for inclusion in their portfolios. Both traditional and alternative investment management firms are also considering adding Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency exposure to their closed-end funds. In addition, the development of other digital assets and blockchain technology generally have advanced steadily. With a rapidly changing regulatory environment and entrepreneurial firms looking to launch innovative products and solutions, exposure to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies raises potentially novel considerations for closed-end funds.
