SUMMARY:Climate Action Sustainable Investment Forum Europe 2021 Part 4
DESCRIPTION:Growth in Europe can be driven by Europe – Europe continues to be at the forefront of global sustainable finance. Climate Action\, in partnership with UNEP FI are delighted to announce the 2021 Sustainable Investment Forum Europe will remain virtual whilst we navigate these challenging times\, following the success of the September online event and extending our reach to a wider global audience. \nEurope\, in particular the EU can pave the way to a sustainable recovery beyond COVID-19. Europe’s regulatory and societal climates have encouraged and accelerated coherent sustainable investment growth strategies for the EU. They continue to represent a unique opportunity for governments to reshape a sustainable future world\, and for private and institutional investors to access attractive responsible ESG investment propositions to support ESG and global sustainable finance. \nDue to the volatile nature of the COVID-19 crisis\, there is an urgent need to identify and model risks that companies did not consider prior to the pandemic\, to encourage private and institutional investors to invest in more purposeful projects using enhanced de-risking mechanisms offered by increased EU-backed guarantees. With a mandate for embedding environmental\, social and governance (ESG) risks in their investment strategies many are expecting the Biden administration will trigger growth in demand in ESG investing as it is anticipated that Biden will accelerate the transition to a low-carbon US economy –what are the e implications for Europe and will this see a decisive move towards a common approach to cross border carbon taxes in Europe and North America? \nKey themes: \n\nEU long term strategy for 2050- update on the EU Action Plan\nGreening an inclusive recovery post pandemic\nHow can AI help with ESG investing?\nMeeting UN SDGs: Constructive dialogue is crucial to ensure broad support for the global implementation of a green recovery\nManaging climate related risks and opportunities- resilience and forward scenario planning\nThe evolution of ESG performance- How can investors capture value in ESG?\nWomen in sustainable finance – how to make it in the green economy/ The sustainable finance journey- are women leading the way?\nImpact investing- here to stay? Can combining with ESG strategies have greater impact?\nInvestor expectations and the importance of corporate engagement- how can investors make a real impact?\nCan the EU’s taxonomy wipe out greenwashing?\nUpdate on SFDR regulation scheduled for March 2021\nWill a Biden Presidency augment the sustainable investment landscape in Europe and beyond? What is the likelihood of cross border carbon taxes?\n\nFeatured speakers: \n\nChris Faint Head of Department\, Climate & Small Mutuals Division\, Bank of England\nEva Halvarsson\, CEO\, Andra AP-fonden (AP2)\nGeraldine Ang\, Senior Policy Analyst\, Green Finance & Investment\, OECD\nHeike Reichelt\, Head of investor relations and sustainable finance\, World Bank\nJoël Prohin\, Head of Investment Management Department\, Asset Management Division\, Caisse des dépôts\nMagnus Billing\, CEO\, Alecta\nOlivier Guersent\, Director General\, European Commission\nOlivier Rousseau\, Executive Director\, Fonds de Réserve pour les Retraites (FRR)\nSonja Gibbs\, Managing Director Sustainable Finance\, Institute of International Finance\nSylvie Préa\, Group Director of Corporate & Social Responsibility\, Société Générale\nTorben Möger Pedersen\, CEO\, Pension Danmark\nMarja Nykänen\, Deputy Governor\, Bank of Finland\nEric Usher\, Head\, UNEP-FI

SUMMARY:ESMA Webinar on Sustainable Finance - Fund Portfolio Networks: A Climate Risk Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Within the European financial sector\, investment funds are more exposed to climate-sensitive economic sectors than banks\, insurers and pension funds. However\, few investment fund climate-related financial risk assessments have been conducted. ESMA has made a first attempt to fill this gap\, using a data set of EUR 8 trillion of European investment fund portfolio holdings. Funds whose portfolios are tilted towards more polluting assets (brown funds) distribute their portfolio over a larger number of companies than funds with cleaner portfolios (green funds). \nThis apparent diversification hides a concentration risk: brown funds are more closely connected with each other (have more similar portfolios) than green fund portfolios\, which tend to ‘herd’ less (have less similar portfolios to those of other green funds). This suggests that widespread climate-related financial shocks are likely to disproportionately affect brown funds. This is confirmed by a preliminary climate risk asset valuation exercise included in ESMA TRV No 1 2021. \nDuring the webinar you will see a presentation of the article and its findings. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

SUMMARY:AIMA Webinar Sanctions Risk: Keeping up with Regulatory Expectations and Best Practices for Asset Managers
DESCRIPTION:Asset managers have long grappled with the difficulty that sanctions pose to the investment process. Historically\, comprehensive country-level sanctions were easier to screen for than those resulting from an indirect relationship with a sanctioned entity. However\, the proliferation of sanctions at all levels\, coupled with the complexity of corporate and investment structures\, have made even the most obvious cases harder to spot in recent years. The nexus to a sanctioned entity often is the devil in the details. Your investment may be closer than you think\, and penalties can apply on a strict liability basis. \nOn April 12\, AIMA will host a discussion with Howard Mendelsohn\, Chief Client Officer of Kharon\, a leading research and data analytics firm focused on sanctions at all levels\, in all jurisdictions. We will dive into the regulatory landscape\, review case examples\, and discuss best practices for keeping your firm safe. \nJoin us for this timely and informative webinar. You may submit questions in advance or live during the session. \nSpeakers: \n\nHoward Mendelsohn\, Chief Client Officer\, Kharon\nSuzan Rose\, Senior Advisor\, Government & Regulatory Affairs\, AIMA
