It may appear at first glance we are becoming an Elon Musk news page. This however is not born out our interest in him but rather his interest in being in the media spotlight and his seemingly inherent generation of risk therein.
Musk made headlines at time of writing for announcing over Twitter that he would be flouting California State orders by reopening Tesla’s Alameda factory. Orders specifically put in place to protect its workers and to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
Everyone’s favourite celebrity President Donald Trump has taken to Twitter to defend Musk’s actions, stating “open the plant, NOW”.
Local authorities naturally have opposed Musk’s actions, with Musk proposing that if anyone from the factory should be arrested it should be him. Debate rages on both sides of the costs (read:lives) and benefits (read:money).
There has been little comment from the actual workers of the factory and one would imagine there was little prior consultation in the matter. But when has anyone ever asked the cattle at the abattoir their thoughts?
